The root contains the lactone protoanemonin which has an irritant and antibacterial action. It can often be used treat dysentery with bloody stools and abdominal pain due to amoebic dysentery.
Picrasma excelsa can be used as an antibacterial, antifungal, antimalarial, antivenom, antiviral, and for constipation.
Cutch tree or Acacia catechu also commonly called Mimosa catechu is used for diarrhea, swelling of the nose and throat, dysentery, swelling of the colon (colitis), bleeding, indigestion, osteoarthritis, and cancer. It also has external uses.
Hedyotis is used in traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of cancers, infections and other diseases. Hedotis’ active peptides target directly bacterial membranes. It is, thus, unlikely for bacteria to develop resistance. Therefore, hedyotide B1 peptide, with a novel mode of action, has potential as a unique antimicrobial agent against drug-resistance bacteria.
